MYKONOS: 5 DAY ITINERARY

Mykonos is commonly referred to as the Greek "Party Island". Although I can see this mainly being true, I think it is still very doable as a couples getaway or a family trip. You'll just have to create an Itinerary around your group's needs. We stayed in a Villa within the town called Ftelia, which was right in front of a beach. It was about 15 minutes away from the airport. The house is called The Beach House Mykonos. There are also some family friendly beach clubs in this area (Alemagou & Ftelia Beach clubs). I found our Villa through VRBO instead of Airbnb. We also booked the villa at a discounted 30% off rate because we went during the "shoulder" season (May). The summer months (June- September) are overpriced and crowded, but you'll also find it to be more lively during these months. The weather in May today looks and feels very different from what locals would describe in past years. No surprise there, Global warming is real. The first half of May was pretty chilly in comparison to previous years, but the last two weeks or so felt like summer weather. You can also pretty much get from one side of the island to the other in 25 minutes or less. The airport is very small, but not crowded at all. You'll most likely need to connect through the fairy or airport in Athens to arrive to this island.

DAY 1:

  • Visit Mykonos Town aka "Chora". There is so much to explore in this town from shopping, sight seeing, dining, and drinking. You'll probably find yourself coming back into town in the evenings as well for dinner & nightlife. Parking lots are available and range from 15 to 25 Euros per vehicle.

  • Enjoy lunch in Mykonos town. The secret is to grab quick bites/street food during lunch so that you can splurge more for dinner with sunset views. We ate at Souvlaki Story, which is famous for their affordable Greek dishes, such as gyros, moussaka, & lamb.

  • For dinner, we enjoyed an early meal at our villa by the chef provided through our VRBO rental. (IG: @meletis_m).

  • The sun begins to set around 8:15 PM in Mykonos. We grabbed drinks @ Scorpios Beach Club. Unfortunately, we arrived after the sunset but this beach club is well known for their "sunset rituals" due to the views and largely discounted bottles/cocktails.

  • Ending the nightlife at Bonbonniere, which is also located in Chora/ Mykonos Town. This nightclub has both indoor and outdoor seating. They played some outdated music in US standards (which is common throughout Europe). However, if you are in a "throwback" kind of mood like we were, then you can really enjoy yourself here. Plus the drink prices were not as high as you would find in other places like Scorpios.

DAY 2:

  • We started our mornings with mobile massages at our villa, services were provided through Ciel Mykonos Spa. Their prices were very affordable in comparison to your typical spa prices (i.e- 80 Euros for a 60 minute Deep tissue massage).

  • We enjoyed Brunch prepped by the same chef mentioned in Day 1. [tip: If your villa is too far from town and you need food delivery, you can use the website mykonos.delivery for online food delivery from anywhere on the island.

  • Dinner & nightlife was at Buddha Bar Beach Mykonos. This night was phenomenal! Just a heads up, it is pretty expensive. However, it is absolutely worth every euro spent. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals and drinks, and the service was incredible. They played great music and really kept you entertained at your table the entire time. This restaurant sits on the water and is a beach club during the day as well. My group and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

DAY 3:

  • Day trip to Paros Island. We used Ferryhopper.com to purchase tickets which departed from Mykonos New Port. We took the SuperExpress ferry and it got us to Paros in 45 minutes, for about 80 Euros RT per person . We added our Jeep to the Ferry which cost about 25 Euros each way. Other ferries might be cheaper, but the duration of the ferry ride will be longer. The ferries frequently travel between the Greek Islands and to/from Athens. If you check out our instagram highlights, you'll see the ferries are very comfortable and they have food and beverage services.

  • Once we arrived to Paros we walked through the town and did some shopping. We stopped to eat at a local restaurant along the waterfront called Mouragio Taverna. The food was delicious and pretty cheap in comparison to Mykonos. Overall, Paros is generally much cheaper in comparison to Mykonos. It's also less crowded and there were several opportunities for photos.

  • We then drove the Jeep to the other side of town and went to a beach club called Punda Coast. It was pretty empty because we were not in peak season, but honestly we preferred it that way. Sun beds were 10 euros per person and it came with umbrellas. The water was pretty clear as most of the sea typically is within the Greek Islands.

  • After Punda Coast we drove back to the ferry port & walked across the street for more gelato and chocolate.

DAY 4:

  • The 4th day started with a private catamaran cruise. I found the cruise company through the GetMyBoat application. I use this application to find private boat cruises offered in most countries around the world. It is convenient and always comes with a captain. The best part is that you get to read honest reviews from previous customers as well as have the ability to openly message and communicate back and forth with the owner. Our 5-hour, private cruise was about $190 Euros per person and it came with an open bar and freshly prepared lunch with a chef onboard. The cruise company was called Mykonos Cruising. We had a great experience with the captain as well as the chef. They were hospitable and attentive like most of the Greek locals.

  • Following the cruise, we walked across the street to a local Taverna. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but there are several that you will walk into along the marina.

  • Negrita's Cocktail Bar was our final destination in the evening. I highly recommend reserving a table several days or even weeks ahead of time, depending on the season you are traveling. It is located in the town called "Little Venice". It sits side by side to other several small bars and restaurants facing the water. Everything in our experience there was highly recommended- from the DJ, the service, and the drinks. Everything was truly phenomenal. Unlike the United States, restaurants and bars in Greece do not rush you out of your table and put you on a time limit. Overall, Day 4 was our favorite day of the trip.

DAY 5:

  • Day 5 was our last full day. We spent this day relaxing and catching up on our naptime, I did turn 30 after all :). We spent the day at Kalua Beach Bar. Again, it was a little empty because we came during the shoulder season. It was beautifully decorated both inside and out. The service was good and the sunbeds were $40 euros per person. The 40 euros also went towards your food and drink tab. The drinks were decent, although expensive. You can expect drinks to be expensive almost anywhere in Mykonos. It is known for being one of the most expensive Greek islands. The food was good. We all ordered burgers and fries. This was decently priced. The majority of their menu served sushi, which none of us actually tried so I can't speak on how good it was.

  • We ended our trip with a farewell dinner from our personal chef at the villa. He was always kind and treated us with so much respect. Most importantly, the food was delicious!
